What AWP Safety’s Expansion into New Regions Means for Customers

In the News, Team AWP, September 8, 2025

Infrastructure crews deserve the best protection, service, and support — no matter where their work takes them. AWP Safety is bringing customer-first service and technology-driven traffic control solutions to new utility, broadband and road construction customers in four high-opportunity regions: Chicago, Houston, Madison, Wis., and all of Louisiana.

 Seth Walpole
Seth Walpole, senior vice president and general manager of AWP Safety, shares why AWP Safety is entering these regions now — and what it means for local customers.

Key Takeaways

  • AWP Safety is expanding into four new regions: Chicago, Houston, Madison, Wis., and Louisiana to meet growing infrastructure demands and bring local customers access to national-scale service and technology.
  • Customers benefit from real-time scheduling, safety-first culture, and full-service traffic control solutions backed by national standards and experienced local teams.
  • AWP offers a smarter alternative to smaller, single-service providers, helping customers work safer, more efficiently, and with greater confidence on every job.

Seth, AWP Safety is entering four new territories all at once. Why these regions, and why now?

Simply put, we’re going where our customers need us most. Utilities, broadband providers, and transportation agencies are tackling aggressive schedules and ambitious buildouts. They need partners who can move fast, scale efficiently, and keep projects safe and on time.

It’s really about giving more customers local access to the kind of service, technology and compliance support they may not get from smaller, more localized traffic control providers.

How does having AWP Safety in these regions benefit customers already working with local providers?

There are plenty of good local companies doing solid work. Many specialize in one thing, like flagging or signage. But what we consistently hear from customers is that they’re looking for more: more reliability, more accountability, and more integration across how traffic control is planned, executed, and reported.

We deliver that by combining local crews with national capabilities — helping customers manage cost, compliance, and scheduling more effectively.

What specific solutions does AWP Safety provide that others can’t?

We’re a one-stop shop providing everything customers need, whether they’re placing new fiber in neighborhoods or managing complex traffic shifts on DOT roadways. What sets us apart is proactive problem-solving and better tools. Here’s what we’re delivering:

  • Real-time scheduling and local dispatch backed by national support.
  • Automated Flagger Assistance Devices (AFADs) and smart work zone tech that improve safety and compliance.
  • Digitized processes for planning, documentation, billing and post-project reporting that save customers time, reduce risk and potentially drive down future costs.
  • Local teams, trained and certified to consistent national standards — with oversight from experienced environmental, health and safety leaders.
  • And most importantly, a culture of safety that puts accountability and protection at the center of every job.

Let’s get specific. What are you doing right now in each new region?

These aren’t pop-up projects we’re in it for the long run. We’ve hired local talent and deployed crews in Chicago, Madison and Houston to meet the most pressing needs in each community. We’re supporting major broadband expansion in Chicago, utility work in Louisiana, and public/private roadway construction in Houston.

Madison is ramping up soon, and we’re investing in permanent facilities across all four regions to support long-term growth.

We’re also working closely with AWP Safety companies that already have a strong regional presence. Site Barricades is instrumental in our DOT work in Houston. And our team at Give ‘Em A Brake Safety with deep DOT experience in Michigan —is leading efforts to bring our services to more road construction customers in Wisconsin.

For prospects who don’t know AWP Safety yet — why choose your team over the status quo?

Our customers trust us to protect their crews like we would our own families. That’s not a tagline—it’s how we work. We don’t just show up with signs and cones; we show up with a plan, a purpose, and a promise to get you home safely.

If you’ve been working with a local provider who does a good job—we respect that. But if you’re ready for more consistency, more innovation, and more confidence on every job, we’re ready to prove the difference.
