AWP Safety Provides Comprehensive Safety Solutions for Ten West Link Transmission Line Project in California and Arizona

AWP Safety’s traffic control expertise, law enforcement partnerships and high-quality equipment are supporting the expansion of renewable energy in the Western U.S.  Our team is currently providing comprehensive worksite protection for EC Source, a utility construction solutions provider connecting a new solar power facility to existing power infrastructure.

 

Challenge

Sponsored and owned by NAES, America’s largest power generation independent services provider, the Ten West Link Transmission Line project is a 125 mile-long, single-circuit, 500-kilowatt transmission line being built between Arizona and California to create more stable and sustainable electrical infrastructure. The transmission line is crucial for balancing power supply and demand. It also will help the region capitalize on renewable energy to reduce its carbon footprint. 

EC Source, a MasTec company, is performing complex overhead line crossings that will deliver power from the new solar plant to regional homes and businesses. EC Source completes the line crossings with the help of helicopters that string new lines over busy intersections, major freeways and rural roads. Traffic control and work zone protection are needed to ensure safety for ground crews and motorists during the installations.

 

Solution

Leveraging its connections and credibility with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), AWP Safety procures and schedules police services on behalf of EC Source for each unique job site. 

Additionally, AWP Safety has devised more than 34 traffic control plans to accommodate various worksite setups and already implemented 15 of them. Several worksites in Arizona’s La Paz County and on roadways managed by the Arizona and Maricopa County Departments of Transportation (ADOT and MCDOT) are utilizing automatic flagger assistance devices (AFADs).  

AWP Safety is also supporting the project with a comprehensive portfolio of safety equipment including specialty signs, cones, arrow boards, message boards, barricades and trucks.
