Payroll Coordinator

The Payroll Specialist role is responsible for supporting all departments within the organization and distributing data to achieve department and organizational goals. This position will uphold AWP’s core values and mission of protecting our customers’ people, businesses, and time. This position will be involved the development, implementation, and coordination of all data across various departments and leadership. This includes coordinating, administering, and reconciling the weekly payroll to ensure compliance as well as maintaining the payroll database. 



  • Ensure garnishments are applied and completed in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations to ensure the deductions are applied appropriately
  • Set up and maintain garnishment set-up tables in UKG
  • Investigate and resolve any garnishment-related issues for agencies and employees
  • Work with payroll to execute timely entering of garnishments, bankruptcies, creditor garnishments, child supports, state tax liens, and IRS levies for payroll processing
  • Manage payroll process daily and perform accounting-related tasks 
  • Compile payroll data such as garnishments, vacation time, and insurance for Union locations 
  • Utilize (E-time software) and review information for compliance 
  • Communicate with department supervisors on any discrepancies and make corrections 
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws 
  • Analyze, prepare, and input payroll data
  • Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management 


  • High School/GED?required
  • 1-2 years experience working on payroll 
  • Certified payroll/compliance knowledge is preferred but not required 
  • Process payroll daily for field employees to ensure pay is distributed accurately 
  • Attention to detail and ability to problem solve 
  • Strong Customer service 
  • UKG Experience is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of various types of garnishments in all fifty states
  • Familiar with child support reporting requirements for employee bonuses, vacations, and terminations
  • Knowledge of the EIWO reporting system, spreadsheets, and filing requirements
  • Must be accurate in data entry skills, detail-oriented, and keeping current with new regulations
  • Proficient in Excel (VLOOKUP’s, concat, formula understanding, and writing, etc.)


The employee must be able to successfully handle the physical demands of this position, which include the following:

  • Hours of operation are typically 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., M-F
  • Primarily sedentary or working at a desk
  • Occasionally lift and move 10 -25 pounds
  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, or reach with hands and arms
